July 4, 2012

Start: Doyle Hotel, Duncannon, PA

Happy 4th of July!!! We spent our 4th of July with a lazy "zero" day in Duncannon. We woke up early, but I was able to fall back asleep until 9 am. At 11 am, we decided to get pizza for breakfast/ lunch. After pizza, we hung out at the bar in the hotel since it is the only air conditioned place in the whole building. Our room was a scorching 100 degrees (maybe more... My thermometer doesn't always seem so accurate). Eventually, I decided I needed to elevate my knee since that was what today is supposed to be about. We dealt with the heat and went to our room. It wasn't long though, until the heat had us wanting a nap. We slept for a couple of hours and then caught a shuttle to the local food store. We purchased a few things to top off our food supply. We stocked up on mostly snack foods since our resupply in Boiling Springs had our meals. After we got back from the store, Brian and I had some snacks at the bar. We hung out a little more in our room, which had cooled to 97 degrees according to my thermometer. I decided to google if the Doyle is haunted because it sure looks like it could be! Google told me that only good ghosts haunt the Doyle... What a relief! Haha. After a little while, we decided to head to the pizza place again since it is air conditioned and the bar down stairs is closed. We ate some mozzarella sticks and then went back to our room. Time for bed! "Zero" days are nice and relaxing, but I think we are both a bit antsy to get back on the trail. Tomorrow, we are aiming for an 11 mile day.
